CSC is designing and installing an electronic order delivery and trade reporting system based on the latest in wireless local area network (LAN) and handheld computer technology. The state-of-the-art system - part of the New York Stock Exchange's continuing efforts to enhance its efficiency and competitiveness - will go a long way toward preparing it for continued growth in the 21st century.
CSC's system will allow up to 1,500 brokers and other trading floor personnel to receive and execute orders and to request market information using small handheld computers, instead of by telephone and handwritten messages. Member firms also will be able to communicate information to the trading floor electronically through the wireless system.
Brokers and other personnel using CSC's system will write their information on an electronic form displayed on the handheld computer's touch-sensitive screen. They will then transmit the form and its information to the order management system, ensuring the speedy, accurate and reliable execution of trades.
