Department of State Telephone Equipment Contract (DOSTEC)

The Department of State's ability to implement foreign policy depends on its ability to communicate rapidly and securely with its hundreds of offices around the world.

In 1995 State awarded CSC a 10-year contract to upgrade its telephone systems at 64 overseas locations, with the possibility doing the same for more than 300 locations in all. CSC is installing state-of-the-art, digital systems that will meet current telecommunications needs and provide a platform for future video and data services.

The Department of State Telephone Equipment Contract (DOSTEC) provides for the installation of the new systems at U.S. embassies, consulates and other foreign service posts, as well as any other government agency with locations overseas.

CSC has designed the new system around the NORTEL Meridian 1 family of switches. The system, which provides a variety of custom features, will dramatically improve the Department of State's communications with its posts and agencies around the world.

CSC provides the following services for DOSTEC:

Site surveys to determine present and future requirements
Engineering and design of systems to meet these requirements
Procurement of equipment and materials
Installation, testing and placement of the systems into service
On-site training

CSC is using a variety of products for DOSTEC, including NORTEL Meridian 1 switching systems, voice mail systems, telephone management systems equipped with call-accounting software, single-line analog and digital station sets, multi-line analog and digital station sets, key system units and digital attendant consoles equipped with automated directory systems.
