DSN
Defense Switched Network (DSN)
Since 1985, CSC has been helping the Department of Defense implement, manage and operate its voice, data and video communications networks in the Pacific, European and Western hemispheres. The system, called the Defense Switched Network (DSN), is administered by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).
CSC implements and operates the program for DISA under the DSN Worldwide Management Support Services (DSN WMSS) contract. CSC helped DISA create a single, integrated telephone system for DSN from many disparate civil and military systems, and added data communications and video teleconferencing. DSN gives precedence to military users, providing them with secure and reliable communications without compromising the quality of service to other users.
The DSN WMSS contract has three separate, but inter-related projects: Defense Switched Network (DSN), Defense Red Switched Network (DRSN) and DSN Integrated Network Management System (DIMSS). CSC supports DISA with program management, systems engineering, network engineering and network management services in all three areas. CSC also supports DISA's customer base by providing clear, coordinated guidance documents and feedback from usage, billing and traffic data.

What Is Available
CSC currently provides a wide range of services for DSN and related projects, through about 45 tasks, including:
- Network design, systems analysis, project control, information management, configuration management, database design and tactical interface for the global DSN
- Security design, security implementation and network implementation, operations support, configuration management and network design, and analysis for DRSN
- Switch architecture design and analysis, switch and network transition, cutover planning and switch cutover support for the Pentagon renovation
- Network management and control through the DSN Integrated Management Support System (DIMSS) - including performance and fault monitoring, network control messages and remote maintenance emulation
- Electronic transfer of DSN billing data between the continental U.S. (CONUS) and outside the continental U.S. (OCONUS)
- Communications support for DISA's customers, including the Pentagon, U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, the National Security Agency and NATO
- Requirements analysis, rapid prototyping, systems development and testing
- Commercial off-the-shelf software and hardware integration
