Every enterprise
requires a unique set of solutions. Therefore, the first
step toward providing your organization with the best
solution possible is to study your organization. Once
CSC understands how your
organization works and what its goals are, we can tailor an
integrated business system that fits your unique needs.
The process of designing and applying new tools that will
make your enterprise work better is called enterprise
modernization. The single most effective modernization
method is automation, which uses electronic components to
undertake tedious chores formerly done by employees.
Automation may take the form of installing a networked
office system equipped with the appropriate business
software, or installing a telephone system with essential
new features, or building an electronic database that is
accessible to all your offices around the world.
Migrating several legacy systems to a state-of-the-art
integrated system is another important aspect of
modernization. Replacing a dedicated mainframe, for example,
with a distributed system can greatly improve an office's
efficiency and productivity in several ways. A distributed
system also can be adapted to meet the specialized needs of
different departments, take advantage of new technology, and
adjust to evolving business processes that are unique to
your enterprise.
CSC has helped many government and commercial
organizations modernize their business processes. Let us
apply our expertise to making your organization perform
better.

What We Offer ||
Success Stories

IRM Strategy
CSC begins by creating a comprehensive,
enterprise-wide Information Resource Management (IRM) strategy. The
strategy, developed in consultation with you, defines your
organization's business objectives; its business,
information, and technical architectures; and its fiscal,
strategic, and operational requirements. Your IRM strategy
forms the basis for all subsequent work.
Automation
CSC designs, builds, tests, and implements
integrated systems that move your business from
hand-carried, paper-intensive operations, to streamlined,
automated processes that bring the best out of your
enterprise. We work from the conclusions of the IRM strategy
we developed for your organization. The results may include
workflow automation solutions, an
automated office system,
databases, or other possibilities.
Legacy Migration
CSC has more than 30 years of experience in
migrating IBM, Honeywell, DEC, and Amdahl legacy systems to
Sun, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and other distributed systems. We
have performed complex migrations for a variety of
government and commercial customers, including the
Department of Defense, the Treasury Department, and the
National Electronic Information Corporation.
Migrating a mainframe system to a modern, integrated
distributed system requires careful planning on several
fronts. We begin with a preliminary plan of the new system,
including network infrastructures, hardware platforms,
applications, and databases. We then test various segments
of the system. When satisfied with the results, we expand
the preliminary plan into a comprehensive migration plan
that takes into account current resources, integration of
new resources, new procedures, security, administration, and
maintenance. Only then do we migrate the legacy system to
the new business system.

The New York Stock Exchange, one of the icons of modern
business, had long used messengers to carry handwritten
notes to and from the Exchange's floor. Recently, CSC
replaced the messenger system with an electronic
order-delivery and trade-reporting system that uses the
latest in wireless LAN and handheld computer technology.
Among its many innovations, CSC's system allows
brokers to record information by filling in a form displayed
on a small, handheld computer's screen. In this way, data is
transmitted quickly, accurately, and reliably. The automated
system will ultimately allow more than 1,200 brokers and
other floor personnel to communicate with each other and
with the Exchange's databases through the handheld
computers.
At the Office of the Secretary of Defense, CSC
installed high-performance PC workstations, linked by more
than 100 state-of-the-art networks. The network, comprising
up to 500 workstations each, are equipped with commercial
off-the-shelf office software that meets OSD's full range of
needs, from basic word processing to sophisticated technical
development environments. CSC's Office Automation
Secure Information System (OASIS) also provides the highest
level of data security by using computer security configurations,
disk encryption, and end-to-end encryption on the network. |
