CSC - a leader in cellular and wireless data
services - designs, implements, and supports
wireless telecommunications systems around the
world. CSC's secure local and global
systems transfer voice, data, and video across a
variety of wireless connections. Our systems include
such new technologies as wireless local area
networks (LANs), Short Messaging Services (SMS),
Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD), and Personal
Communications Services (PCS).
Wireless technology - which uses radio
frequencies to exchange digital information with
data networks, private voice networks, and host
databases - uses two kinds of networks to transmit
information. Voice-based networks employ modems to
transmit voice and cellular protocols, such as CDPD,
to transmit data. Data-optimized networks use the
radio frequencies recently reserved for data
transfer by the Federal Communications Commission.
When designing a wireless system, CSC's
engineers take into account the advantages of each
network and optimize the system according to such
factors as average message length, frequency of
messages, and system availability.
Wireless systems, with their ability to exchange
real-time information across multiple servers and
host databases from any location in the world, are
growing rapidly in popularity. CSC has
applied wireless technology to activities as diverse
as law enforcement, health care, and transportation,
as well as to the New York Stock Exchange.

FWTS contract. FWTS, which saves users up to 60
percent off commercial rates, also offers users the
convenience of a single point of contact for service
and billing.
CSC replaced the
New York Stock Exchange's traditional
paper-based message-delivery system with a
state-of-the-art wireless system using handheld
computers to transmit and receive data across a
secure network. With their wireless computers, stock
brokers can now review, fulfill, or check the status
of orders with their booth clerks or customers from
any point on the trading floor. CSC's system
uses the new 2.4 GHz frequencies. |
