Developing and implementing the right
software and
database solutions for your
enterprise are only the first steps in
helping you improve your business.
CSC also provides the software
and database support that can keep your
system running smoothly. We fix
problems as they arise, institute
revisions to optimize your efficiency or
security, and provide incremental,
low-risk upgrades. We handle all aspects
of administration and maintenance, from
backups and performance analysis to
privilege administration and data
mining. CSC supports the most
important platforms - including IBM,
Honeywell, DEC, Sun, Hewlett-Packard,
and Macintosh - running such operating
systems as UNIX, Windows NT, Windows 95, MacOS, MVS, GCOS8, and VMS.
CSC
also maintains and administers databases
developed in Oracle, Sybase, Informix, Rdb, IDS-II, Access, and other
applications.
CSC engineers are familiar
with both structured and object-oriented
techniques, and are expert in both
legacy and client/server systems.

We Offer ||
Success Stories

Database Administration
Keeping a database up to date can be a
daunting task, especially when it is
part of a large system. CSC has
the experience to perform all your
database administration needs, without
interrupting your critical operations.
Our administrators can manage your
configurations, perform upgrades,
maintain user privileges, convert data,
and develop your emergency recovery
plan. We also can perform backups,
archives, restores, and other tasks. We
can be there when you need us,
24-hours-a-day.
Database Optimization
Often the most frustrating aspect of
using a database is slow access speed.
CSC optimizes databases by
addressing the problem from several
angles. We collect statistics on
database seek times, user display times,
application processing times, database
table sizing, server sizing, network
connectivity, and hardware redundancy.
We then use
modeling tools to determine the
exact cause of the bottleneck - whether
it is the database or another component
of your system. If it is in the
database, we evaluate the use of
alternate and foreign keys or table
resizing and repartitioning to optimize
the database. We also talk to users
about their specific requirements.
Database Maintenance
Organizations must update their
systems regularly. New ways of looking
at data, the need to fix bugs, and
system migrations are but a few of the
reasons. Yet a change to one part of the
system can have serious consequences for
the rest. CSC’s database experts
can help you mitigate these risks. For
more than 30 years, CSC has been
doing just that for the U.S. Department
of Defense, an organization which has
some of the most complex databases in
the world. We can do the same for you,
no matter how small or large your
system. As a systems integrator, we look
at the big picture and take into account
all aspects of the change, including
hardware, software, databases, and data.
We can help you through changes such as
application migration and database
conversion.
Software Administration
Keeping software up to date can be
vital to the success of an operational
system. CSC has the experience to
perform all your software administration
needs without interrupting your critical
applications. Our administrators can
control your software parameters, manage
your configurations, and upgrade your
operating system or application as
needed. We can also perform backups,
archives, restores, and other tasks. We
can do this from our site or yours.
Software Optimization
CSC typically optimizes
software by using
simulation tools to locate
bottlenecks in the system. If the
problem is the software, we decrease
processing times, increase software
concurrency, eliminate unnecessary
processing, or increase application
space.
Software Maintenance
CSC has the experience to
ensure that software changes do not
cause serious consequences for the rest
of your system. We can fix bugs, improve
processing times, or migrate systems
without interrupting your operations. We
can maintain systems 24 hours a day,
seven days a week.

Since 1979, CSC has maintained
many of the Federal Aviation
Administration’s (FAA) systems for
ensuring the safety of our skies. For
the FAA Leased A & B Service (LABS)
program, CSC provides software
maintenance and evolution, migrating
some of the FAA’s legacy systems to more
open systems. For the
Direct User Access Terminal System (DUATS),
CSC maintains a portion of the
National Flight Data Center’s
aeronautical data. CSC provides
both routine and emergency maintenance
for both DUATS and LABS, 24 hours a day,
seven days a week. We have received
commendations and awards expressing our
customers’ satisfaction at our
responsiveness to changing requirements
and our flexibility in meeting their
needs.
CSC also has performed
administration and maintenance on many
projects for the Department of Defense.
We are currently migrating Air Mobility
Command (AMC) applications to Java
running on UNIX and Solaris servers
connected to Windows NT workstations. At
the same time, we are migrating AMC
databases from Informix to Oracle and
Trusted Oracle. For the Command,
Control, Communications, Computers, and
Intelligence (C4I) Integration Support
Activity (CISA) contract, we are
maintaining a Clipper database that
identifies, stores, and calculates all
elements that contribute to a product or
outcome. And, for the Communications
System Segment Replacement (CSSR)
program, we are maintaining FORTRAN,
Assembly, "C," and "C++" source code. |
