Standards Compliance Consulting

As a pioneer in the development and use of standards, CSC can analyze your requirements and help you incorporate process, communications and information technology standards into your enterprise. Standards enable diverse organizations located worldwide to work separately, while ensuring that their products will ultimately work together. GTE routinely integrates many commercial products into a single enterprise network, with standards compliance minimizing the risks involved in these integration projects.

Organizations also define internal processes which become internal "standards." CSC did this to achieve ISO 9001 registration. We recognize the value of compliance with this set of quality management standards, aimed primarily at achieving quality and customer satisfaction at all program stages from design through support. As traditional government standards are replaced by "best commercial practices" and more flexible, responsive and cost-effective business practices, CSC is prepared to be an industry leader in self-driven quality systems.

As long-standing leaders on standards committees and in technical working groups, CSC is in the forefront of both developing new standards and helping ensure compliance with existing standards. We are ready to help you find the best way to employ standards in your business, making you more efficient and cost-effective.

What We Offer

Computer/Communications Development
For many years CSC employees have been developing standards-based computer/communications systems for use by our customers. We utilize applicable standards issued by these and other standards bodies:

Standards Development
By taking on active roles on the standards committees like those listed below, CSC employees have helped to define standard operating guidelines - a benefit for us and for you:

Organization Committee
TIA T1M1.5 Network Elements Operating System Interfaces
TIA ISDN and Intelligent Networks
TIA TR45.2 Cellular Mobile Services
TIA TR45.3 Next Generation Cellular
TIA T1S1.1 and .3 Network Signaling
ANSI X3H7 (Object Information Management)
ANSI X3T3 Operating Systems Distributed Processing
Computer and Business Equipment Manufacturers Association X3T5.4 Models (OSI)

Success Stories

In developing the Office Automation Secure Information Service (OASIS), CSC employed many of the standards listed above. We provided high performance user workstations, integrated office automation software, and state-of-the-art networking to meet user requirements ranging from basic word processing capabilities to complex technical environments. This UNIX-based system uses distributed computing work groups, a fiber optic backbone, optical storage media, sophisticated encryption mechanisms, and other standards-based technologies to support the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).

An evolutionary objective for the Government Emergency Telecommunications Service (GETS) is to take full advantage of the call management capabilities being developed for IEEE Signaling System Number 7 (SS7) networks. In particular, the Government wants to enhance GETS with the SS7 High Probability of Completion (HPC) capability so that call completion can be improved via call priority schemes and network management control applications. As coordinator of this effort and chair of the SS7 standards committee, CSC determined that influencing the use of the HPC standards in carrier networks could not be done effectively within the government's timeline. Instead, we recommended that our experts work with major switch vendors to add HPC features to their switches, making it easy for local and long-distance carriers to implement the HPC capability. The government was pleased when we saved both time and money with this innovative approach to standards.
